Focus Groups
We held two Focus Groups today, one with 4 real estate professionals at the San Marcos Board of Realtors and another with 25 members of the Rotary Club.  The discussions questions we used are in the following document: Focus Group Questions

The results of the Focus Groups were quite enlightening.  There was a mixture of optimism and pessimism.  I learned a new vocabulary word with the Rotarians:  bifurcate - to divide into two parts or branches.  We will collate the information from the two Focus Groups and post them on our website.

Perceptions of San Marcos
Cecil Pounds and Brad Davis will be facilitating some focus groups on Fri 13 March 2009 at the San Marcos Board of Realtors and the Rotary Club.  The purpose of these Focus Groups is to gather Perceptions of San Marcos.  With this information, we can better address the challenges and communicate the advantages to people and businesses considering a move here.  Understanding the perceptions is key to creating and implementing a Marketing Communications Plan for the SMCISD.

Thanks for the T-Shirts
Thanks to Ronda Stonecipher and the A+ Federal Credit Union, A Call to Excellence has new T-shirts.  The motto we settled on was:  "Exemplary in All Ways".  We need to give them out at our next event, to be scheduled.  I was also thinking about setting up a link on the web site for members to nominate Students, Teachers or Residents that have been Exemplary in some way.  Watch this space ...

SMCISD Redistricting
My wife Jeanne attended the SMCISD School Board meeting last night to learn more about the new Redistricting Plan.  Since SMCISD has built new schools and moved schools around, it is time to re-balance the student population.  She found the presentation informative and well-researched.  They will be doing separate Redistricting sessions for Travis and Bowie Elementary Schools, which are the most affected.  The new district boundaries will be posted on the SMCISD website soon in Powerpoint format.  I don't see it yet, but keep checking at:  http://www.smcisd.net

Correction from SMDR

Correction: Student injury at Miller, not Hernandez

A story in Wednesday’s edition concerning the stabbing of a SMCISD student did not occur at Hernandez Intermediate School but at Miller Jr. High.

District spokeswoman Iris Campbell said this morning that the 14-year-old boy injured when stabbed with a ball point pen through “several layers of clothing” was only slightly injured.

The 14-year-old boy suspected of inflicting the injury “went through the process as described in the school code of contact,” and has been placed in the district’s alternative program Rebound. The boy’s parents were also contacted.

We regret our error and any misunderstanding it caused.
